preterm birth research Alberta

Improving pregnancy and newborn outcomes in Alberta through research.

Every year, around 15 million babies are born too early, known as preterm birth. This can lead to life-long health challenges for the child and emotional as well as financial strain for the families. Preterm babies often need to be hospitalized in intensive care units for a long time. There, they can be supported and cared for while they continue to grow and develop until they are strong enough to go home.

Partners in Research

Our research is about teaming up with people — those with firsthand knowledge and experience of the health issue we are studying. This is a way of doing research that’s not just about the researchers; it's about connecting with you.

This idea comes from a bigger movement to ensure that research considers everyone involved.

That is why we are working closely with a public and professional advisory council that gives us advice based on their perspectives and knowledge so that we can consider the issue from all angles.

By working together, we are dedicated to ensuring this research resonates with people to bring about positive change.
